Whiki.online is moving to a new domain

From Telepedia Meta Wiki, Telepedia's central hub

When Whiki was founded in early 2022, I wanted to park the platform at a domain that represented what the platform was all about — that is hosting wikis for entertainment and gaming. It was for this reason, that I chose the domain "whiki", given that phonetically, it sounds like "wiki" when read aloud.

The issue arose when looking to purchase a domain name, given that "whiki.com" and "whiki.org" were both taken — both extensions that would've been preferable and are more respectable. Hence, the only remaining option was ".online". Whilst it works, it doesn't seem as professional as the others and hence, I am thinking about changing the domain name for a different one; either an extension, or a completely different name.

I still want to emphasise what the platform is all about, so there are a few options that I am considering at this moment, and wanted to gather opinions on which is better. The options that I am considering are:

  • whiki.online -> whiki.co.uk
  • whiki.online -> wikiee.org
  • whiki.online -> whikiee.com
  • whiki.online -> telephile.org/.net
  • whiki.online -> telepedia.net

Let me know what your opinions are on the proposed changes and which would be the better option in the comment. On the other hand, I want to emphasise that whiki.online will not go away immediately when the change takes place. The Platform will continue to support wikis at whiki.online until 16/03/2023; at this point, we will drop support for the domain as the domain expires. Telepedia.net is the current favourite, and if no objections are made, this is the domain which will be chosen.

If anyone has any other ideas, however, about possible domains, please let me know.

Thanks!

Update and the new domain

After a hard think about the possible direction of the Platform, and what the Platform should represent, I have decided that the new domain will be Telepedia.net. This brings together what we stand for, which is providing encyclopedic knowledge on everything entertainment, with a focus on Television and Movies. This means that there may be a slight shift to only hosting wikis in relation to television, movies and anime, and a move away from hosting gaming wikis (we only host a few, anyway, and they're few and far between).

I'm in the process of changing everything over, and the paperwork has been filed with Companies House to legally change the name of the company behind Whiki (Whiki Limited), to the new name, Telepedia Limited. This should be complete this week, but obviously it is the holidays so there could be some delays. The next process will be to acquire the domain, which I will be doing over the coming days, and redirecting it to the Whiki platfom.

From the time that the domain is acquired and all of the paperwork at Companies House is finalised, wikis created on the platform will be created on the new domain. There will be a brief transition period in which we will allow already created wikis that have a community (such as the Qualitipedia Wiki) to choose which domain they wish to use. This allows a bit of flexibility, but it is very much advised that wikis switch over as soon as possible — if they choose to do so initially, we will assist with submitting new sitemaps to Google and Bing. Otherwise, admins of the wikis will have to do this themselves.

Below is a breakdown of the new brand identity for the platform, including the logo and the icon. Feedback is welcome for the new logo and icon, and I will endevour to take the feedback on board and tweek the brand as necessary.
