User Profile

From Telepedia Meta Wiki, Telepedia's central hub
An example of a user profile on Meta, showing global groups and edit count.

The User Profile extension overrides the default wiki user profile to provide an enhanced customisable profile similar to that of Social Profile and Fandom's profiles, but without all of the additional mess. User Profiles can be used alongside a wiki profile, and you can still access your regular wiki profile from the "user page" tab on your profile.

Features

Avatar

The User Profile extension provides an avatar which is shown on the page in the masthead. The image is 132x132 by default, so make sure that your image looks good, because it might be scaled up or down depending on its size. Uploading an avatar at present requires JavaScript, as the interface is completely built using OOUI, so if you do not have JS enabled on your browser, you will be unable to upload an avatar — it is planned to support a Special Page for this later for those on metered connections.

User Groups

The profile masthead will also contain your user groups, both locally, and user groups gotten from CentralAuth, if you are part of any global user groups on Telepedia (such as SABER, or Staff). It will not show some default groups, such as autoconfirmed, user, or the '*' group—which is given to everyone, regardless of whether you are anonymous or not.

You will have a choice when editing your profile whether or not you wish to show your global user groups. This is probably only relevant to those who are in global groups.

Social Links

There are a set of social links provided by the extension, which can be added or removed to display links to several different services; these include Discord, Mastodon, and X. There is a Discord field, where you can put in your Discord username for users to find (similar to how it is done on Fandom). If you would like us to investigate adding further fields, please open a ticket on Jira.

These fields are validated by the extension, and as such, if you put a link in here that does not conform to how a user profile link would look on the service, it will be saved but will not be displayed to users. None of these links are mandatory, and you can only add which you like; if a link is left blank, it will not be displayed.

User Page

The section below the header will display the regular user page, and you can edit it like a regular page. There is no change here between the regular page and the page generated by UserProfileV2. The section remains accepting of all content that can exist on a regular userpage.

Customisation

The look and feel of the user page has been designed with the Vector skin in mind, since this is the most popular skin on Telepedia; but it also works perfectly fine in the MonoBook skin. If the profile doesn't look good in the skin you're using, please do let us know, and we'll do our best to fix this.

Other

The main fields for the about me, links, etc. are all pulled from your preferences, so if you do not have JS enabled or have a metered connection you can change those in your preferences and they will be reflected. You may wish to make your preferences for the user profile global to avoid having to set them everytime, but if you want different links etc, on each wiki then this is also fine.

Your avatar will always be global and there is no choice to have this on a per-wiki basis.
